VAMUS BUS 47 SAGRES AND LAGOS - OBSERVATIONS AND CONNECTIONS TO AND FROM SAGRES


I will check and update this page on 2nd May once I can confirm (or otherwise) that the summer timetables are in effect.
The printed timetable (downloaded from the VAMUS website) shows a very strange looking set of arrival times in Lagos, allowing up to 33 minutes for the last part of the journey, 9km from from the village of Espiche, into Lagos.
That takes only 13 minutes going the other way.  I queried this with VAMUS, who quickly replied that the arrival times in Lagos were correct in the printed timetable.

I have used their live GPS tracker display to follow the 1000 bus from Sagres. One time it reached Espiche at 1102 and was ten minutes late. Arrival in Lagos was at 1121, four minutes early by the timetable. Therefore it took 19 minutes between Espiche and Lagos.
If the intermediate times are correct, it is fairly obvious to me that the timetable has been padded by about ten minutes, so that arrival times in Lagos are 'realistic' to allow for late running and so that passengers don't see a 10 - 15 minute connection at Lagos that may not be viable in the event of late running.

On a Saturday, the 0750 bus from Sagres to Lagos arrived at 0856, nine minutes 'ahead of schedule' and on another day, the 1550 bus from Cape St Vincent to Lagos arrived 16 minutes 'ahead of schedule', which somewhat proves the point!
With the winter timetable now in effect until April 30th 2024, for those wishing to travel from Sagres to Lagos then to points east such as Portimao, Albufeira and Faro, the 'connection' times are these.

Albufeira's railway station is nearly four miles (6km) from the town itself, but even that extra bus or taxi ride might be better than sitting around in Lagos for an hour or two.
There is a gap of about 3 hours 30 minutes in the mornings with no trains.

P - there is a bus from Portimão to Lagos at 0800, arriving at 0837. The earliest bus arrival from Faro is at 1030.
There are no useful connections from Faro or Albufeira with the 1715 bus to Sagres. Q - There is a bus from Portimão at 1545, arriving in Lagos at 1622.
The 1830 bus from Lagos to Sagres only runs on schooldays.

P - there is a bus from Portimão to Lagos at 0900, arriving at 0937. There are no buses or trains from Faro, Portimão and Albufeira arriving before 1040.
The earliest bus arrival from Faro is at 1310. Q - There is a bus from Portimão to Lagos at 1545, arriving at 1622. From Albufeira the bus is at 1330, arrival in Lagos 1500
The last bus from Lagos to Sagres at weekends and holidays in winter is at 1715.

I will check and update as required on 2nd May once I can see that the summer times are in effect on these buses. The bus company does not make announcements in advance.
