The information has been obtained from printed
timetables and other local sources (like taking the bus) and is
given in good faith.
Everything is correct to the best of my knowledge as of 9th May 2018 checked at official websites but not in person.
Buses between the airport and city centre operate daily from approx 0500 to midnight - details below.

This page shows details of the local buses between Faro
Airport and the city centre on Proximo routes 14 and 16
The only other scheduled public transport at the airport is a very limited coach service (in winter only one journey each way)
to and from the larger towns along the Algarve coast. For information please visit page 101 here.
For ALL OTHER DESTINATIONS in the Algarve, go to Faro railway station or Faro bus station (the local buses stop outside both) and then take the train or another bus.
There are a few direct long distance buses (coaches to UK readers)
between Faro Airport, Huelva and Seville. For details please see this page.
You CANNOT buy tickets at the airport, you must therefore obtain them on line at the relevant company website before traveling.

Separate tickets are needed for local and long
Please allow plenty of time at Faro bus station when buying a ticket, which you do inside at the ticket office.
You cannot buy train or bus tickets on line for for local journeys in the Algarve.
Travelling with a lot of luggage or very large bags? These are ordinary city buses with very little space for huge bags.
Adult cash fare is €2.30, children €1,50 - pay the driver
The local Proximo (urban bus) route 16 runs from the Bus Station
(outdoor annex) to Aeroporto (Airport) and Praia de Faro. Route diagram
and official timetable on the official website here. Picture of the Próximo station entrance here - note an ATM there. There is a small air-conditoned waiting room with café.
Journey time to the airport is 20 minutes. Buses used have
on board wifi so you do not need to off line for even a moment!!
These buses can be VERY busy and crowded. If you must be at the airport at a certain time, I advise being at the stop in Faro bus station 10 minutes at least before the departure time.
Journeys in BOLD type run daily from 1st July until
second Sunday in September, for the rest of the year they run on

If you are unlucky with the bus times, there is a taxi rank at
the Bus Station. A Taxi to the airport will cost you about €10.
Buses also stop outside the Railway
Station about 1 minute after leaving the bus station. The stop
at the station is across the square to the right as you exit the
station, in front of a tall apartment block. However I recommend
you walk the 2 minutes to the bus station and board there. At busy
times the bus will leave the bus station full and may not stop to pick
up on the way.
Buses also stop outside the Forum Algarve shopping centre, across the road for the bus stop for services from Loulé, Quarteira, Vilamoura and Albufeira. If you are tight for time and don't mind crossing a busy road, you can make your connection here. Otherwise your bus takes you into town and some time later your bus to the the airport will take you back the same way. Buses stop at the Forum Algarve about 5 minutes after leaving the Bus Station.
Proximo Bus 16 that is NOT going to Praia de Faro, unless
you want to go straight to the beach!. Destination is
normally shown as Terminal or Avenida. The bus stop is outside the
Airport terminal Departures area, to the left of the arrivals area
as you exit the terminal building, under the concrete roof like

On arrival at the Faro Bus Terminal from the airport, you must
buy your next bus ticket at the ticket window inside the building.
Allow at least 10 minutes for this, as queues are often long and
there is always someone in front of you with a complex
transaction. You CANNOT buy tickets on line for these journeys.

Buses stop near the railway station
about 1 minute before the time at the Bus Station. Ask the
driver to tell you when you reach that stop, as it is not all
that obvious. The first time you might see a train you are in
fact some distance from the station entrance.
Buses also stop outside the Forum Algarve shopping centre, across the road from a bus stop for services towards Loulé, Quarteira, Vilamoura and Albufeira. If you are tight for time and don't mind crossing a busy road, you can make your connection here. Otherwise the local bus takes you into town and some time later your bus to Albufeira etc will take you back the same way. Buses stop at the Forum Algarve about 15 minutes after leaving the airport.
